Mechanical Contractor - "I am Guilty"
On September 25, 2007, Thomas Shaw owner of LTD Mechanical Services appeared in Pitman municipal court before the honorable Judge Powell for advertising plumbing on the side of his van.
A complaint was filed by Gary Devine after receiving numerous calls from NJ Master Plumbers in the area about LTD Mechanical vans’ signage stating “plumbing”.
At trial Gloucester County Master Plumbers Association President Joe Remshard a witness was asked by the judge to explain what the issue was. He stated that Tom Shaw was advertising plumbing and electrical on the side of his white work van. He went on to say that Shaw was asked six months earlier to remove the wording because he was not licensed as a Master Plumber.
Judge Powell looked over at Mr. Shaw and asked, what is your defense? Mr. Shaw said I am Not Guilty because I did not know the law. The judge stated “Ignorance of the Law is no excuse”. Then I am guilty, Mr. Shaw said.
Judge Powell accepted his guilty plea. Mr. Shaw of LTD Mechanical Services received a $325.00 fine plus the regular court cost and fees. A Plumbing Restraining Order was also imposed.
